Latest Tier 4 Changes
CAS
As from 22nd February 2010, new visa regulations are now in place. When students apply for a visa from abroad or to extend their visa when already in the UK, a visa letter is no longer valid. Instead, the use of a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) reference number is now mandatory. If students are applying from overseas, the College will send them the reference number.
The CAS process for existing LIT students
Any student who needs to apply for a visa extension must fill in a CAS Application Form, as well as the usual Tier 4 Application form.
The CAS Request Form is a single sheet available from College Reception. It must be completed and handed in to Reception with all the required documents as explained on the form. Provided the form and enclosed documents are satisfactory, a CAS number will be supplied which should be included in the relevant section of the Tier 4 Application Form. Please note that applications for visa renewal should not be left to the last minute. Since the CAS number is valid for up to 6 months, we recommend that you apply for it, at least 3 months in advance of your visa expiring.
Working hours
New rules are now in place for working hours. New students, or students extending their visa, who are studying courses below degree level can only work 10 hrs per week. Degree level students can still work 20 hrs per week. It is our understanding that our HND and Advanced Diploma courses are regarded as 'degree' level, however government guidelines are still evolving. We will do our best to keep you informed of any further developments, but it is your responsibility to check the UKBA website www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk and to contact them directly with any queries.
It is important to note that these rules do not apply to existing students while their current visa remains valid. The new rules only apply to students applying for a visa (new or renewal) after 22nd February.
